WHAT GOES WITH CHICKEN WINGS

2 MENUS WITH CHICKEN WINGS BATON ROUGE

What goes with Chicken Wings? Can it be part of more formal menu?

Can one eat the wings with your fingers?

Are they always deep fried in oil?

The story goes that before Buffalo Chicken Wings were created in New York (many version accredits different people for this) the wings were discarded as they have very little flesh around them. And than someone made them delicious and they became very popular. They are generally deep fried in oil and served hot as an appetizer, along with celery sticks and/or carrot sticks with either ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.

And than some people in Louisiana decided to cook the wings in a different way, marinating them first, browning them in butter and finishing off in the oven.

Chicken Wings Baton Rouge was created, a spicy Cajun casserole which can be served with rice to absorb the juice and the flavour.

With any spicy main dishes, the idea of pairing them with ramekins of chopped fruit and/or fresh vegetable seems a good idea, as one can refresh the palate without having to wait for the dessert!

A starter of a simple salad with no aggressive ingredients or dressing, to avoid making two dishes with fiery flavour. The Candied Walnut Salad is very suitable as it is interesting on its own, and can be eaten without any sides.

Finish of with a sorbet that will be welcome to counteract the spicy main course.

So, yes you can serve chicken wings as a main course with sides, starter and dessert. And you should be able to eat the chicken wings with knife and folk as the flesh has mellowed with the cooking. It would be similar to eating oxtail even though it is made of mainly bones.

MENU 1

A Candied Walnut Salad as a Starter.

Spicy Chicken Wings Baton Rouge as a Main Course with Yellow Rice and Ramekins.

A Strawberry Sorbet for Dessert

Make your own Cajun Spice Bottle and just add 6 teaspoons to the Chicken Wings Baton Rouge.

The Candied Walnut Salad is a salad with interesting ingredients, prepare the salad before your guests arrive and just dress it before taking to the table.

The Chicken Wings are spiced with Cajun spices. They do require browning before roasting them. You can do that before your guests arrive and just pop them in a warm up oven for 15 min before serving them.

The Yellow Rice is a very easy rice to make, you add the spices and raisin while the water for the rice is getting hot. Cover and simmer for half an hour.

The Ramekins with chopped bananas, pineapple, onions, tomatoes and chutney can be prepared before your guests arrive.

The Strawberry Sorbet can be made when strawberries are in season and frozen or get any suitable ready made Ice Cream or Sorbet from your supermarket.

Some planning is required, but there is not much need for you to be cooking while your guests are there.

MENU 2

You may want to replace the Sides with French Fries and dip them in the sauce of the Chicken Wings. Replace the Sorbet with a Fruit Salad.
